The Cerro Negro Mining District is located 100 km north of Santiago, Chile, in rocks of the Chilca Formation of Aptian-Cenomanian age. The host sequence consist of continental sandstones and conglomerates with interbedded tuffs, breccias and andesite lavas, and four units of fresh-water bituminous and pyriterich limestones and shales.
